5 Inspiring Songs To Add to Your Playlist

From the frequencies used to lyrics repeated, songs have the power to alter our mindsets. Music is one of my favorite spirit boosters when I find myself in need of inspiration. Below are some of my favorite tunes to listen to and recite a few times each week to keep my hope alive and well!

  1. After the Storm: Kali uchis ft. Tyler the Creator

This song is all about tunnel vision and pushing through your current obstacles because they will not last forever. Kali reminds us that nothing good ever comes easy, and that storms are necessary for the sun to come back out.

My favorite lyric segment from this song is when she sings: “The sun'll come out, Nothing good ever comes easy. I know times are rough but winners don't quit, so don't you give up. The sun'll come out but we've been struggling endless days. Someday we'll find the love,'cause after the storm's when the flowers bloom.”

2. Hold ON: Tems

Tems relays a powerful message to hold on to the journey you are currently on in life in hopes of better days in the future.

The part that sticks out to me the most is “This is for the girl in thе dark, this is for one tryna make it right, this is for the onе waiting for the sunrise, this is for the one with a voice inside. Don’t need to run, when you can breakthrough. Knowing that I’m covered in all I do. Won’t be influenced by the things I see, always look ahead, never behind me. I said hold on, you better hold on. It’s gonna find you, It’s gonna find you. It feels right now, ready to fight now, I’m moving in now, I’m breathing out now. I’m releasing, this inhibition. I got advantage, no need to panic. You need reminding, let me remind you, you’re gonna find it, it’s gonna find you.”

3. Bigger: beyonce

“Bigger” is the most meaningful song to me on this list, as it speaks directly to my soul. I listen to this song when I need a reminder of my purpose and significance in this life.

The most touching part in my opinion is “If you feel insignificant, you better think again
Better wake up because you're part of something way bigger, you're part of something way bigger. Not just a speck in the universe, not just some words in a bible verse. You are the living word. Ahh, you're part of something way bigger. Bigger than you, bigger than we, bigger than the picture they framed us to see. But now we see it, and it ain't no secret, no.”

4. UNwritten: Natasha Bedingfield

In this cheery song, Natasha reminds listeners that they are the only ones in control of their lives. The future is a blank page and your story is unwritten. We have the power to change our narrative whenever we decide to.

The part I love most is “Reaching for something in the distance, So close you can almost taste it. Release your inhibitions, feel the rain on your skin! No one else can feel it for you, only you can let it in. No one else, no one else can speak the words on your lips. Drench yourself in words unspoken, live your life with arms wide open. Today is where your book begins, the rest is still unwritten.”

5. Calm & pAtient: Jhene Aiko

Last but certainly not least is this uplifting tune by the beautiful Jhene Aiko. Last summer, I would listen to this song every morning to make sure I had a positive mindset throughout the day. The lyrics show gratitude to a higher power for the life she is currently living, and the life that is to come.

My favorite part is “I'm satisfied with life I do not just get by, I thrive. What a miracle to be up and alive, sending love to those who are stuck in the fight. I cannot relate to the hate that they made up in their mind, I do not participate because every single time I'm down on my luck, down in the dumps down in my darkest hour… you lift me up, you pick me up, you gave me so much power. And now I know, I'm never alone, it is so easy to see that it is your love lightning me up.”
